HUMANS: Hunters, Witches, Ignorant « Thread Started on Aug 21, 2007, 10:28pm »
Once the dominant race on Earth, humans have the highest population. Their number has decreased significantly in the past decade, since chaos broke loose and crime skyrocketed. Most humans have resorted to gangs, now these brotherhoods are one of the best sources of protection. But many others have taken to the ideology of only trusting themselves, and so they wander alone and always skeptical.
Humans have been categorized into three groups; Hunters, Witches, and The Ignorant.
Humans age normally, and usually have a life expectancy of about 80-90 years old.

Hunters
Hunters are for the human race, they credit themselves for protecting against demons, vampires and lycans. They’re fighting to repair the world and return it to what it was before. It’s important to understand that hunters are not the bad guys of the human race, though their beliefs are recognized as some of the more closed-minded. Hunters do not like the idea of change. But their intentions are some of the most noble.
Hunters work alone, they rarely pair with others. Though on some jobs they are willing to have a partner. They may start at any practical stage of their life, whether it be teens or mid forties. Age makes no difference, experience determines your level of skill.

Ranks & Abilities
Hunters rely on the uses of a variety of weapons and gadgets. They are prolific in nearly every kind of melee weapon: one hand and two hand swords, daggers, throwing knives, fist weapons, polearms, staves, guns, bows, maces, axes, crossbows, shields, whips, anything new or old. Hunters must specialize in a weapon category or technique. It’s up to you what you pick to specialize in, we don’t feel the need to regulate this. Here are some ideas: martial arts, ranged weapons, poisons, one-handed axes, two-handed swords, whip and buckler, sword and shield, mace and dagger, staves, or guns. Be practical. As your hunter gains skill and experience, they are allowed to specialize in more than one area, but only because they’ve learned to balance them.
Levels Please note that the higher rank you begin them at, the older they MUST be. If they're a Weapon Master, they obviously have been practicing for some time, and as humans, they age.
Apprentice (1-49 posts) These hunters have only begun to study the arts of weaponry and melee tactics, and they must be supervised by another more experienced hunter in order to learn the basics and then make a decision as to what area they want to practice. It is most common for an Apprentice to study under a hunter who specializes in an art they are interested in.
Beginner (50-99 posts) Once they’ve studied under a more experienced hunter, they decide their area of specialty and begin learning their trade through experience and practice. Beginners are rather clumsy, and make simple mistakes often. But they are learning. As a Beginner it is possible to apprentice another, however is not wise.
Intermediate (100-199 posts) Hunters who have researched their weapons and tactics for several years now may call themselves Intermediate. Their level of skill is fair, and could be a reasonable opponent for a werewolf or vampire at the same level. Intermediates may apprentice a hunter. They may also begin studying a second form of melee if they wish.
Skilled (200-299 posts) Now the hunter has been experimenting with weapons and techniques, creating his own and manipulating old studies to best suit his unique style. The first choice of weapons he has nearly mastered, especially if he has focused only on this one. If he has practiced a second form as well, he may begin to decide the second is more to his liking and master in this technique contrary to the first. It’s possible to be equal in two, but takes much more devotion.
Weapon Master (300+ posts) This is the highest point a hunter can reach. They have mastered in their selected form of melee and weapons, whether it be one specific technique or two, some may have three. But the more techniques, the less proficient they can be in one.
Cans: - Specialize in certain weapons. - Use virtually ANY kind of weapon. - Openly acknowledge the existence of supernatural beings. - Reproduce (dur..) - Use potions/herbals/talismans etc
Cannots: - Use magic. - Fly, jump off high buildings, get hit by a train and live.. Remember, they're humans. They're simply exceptionally skilled humans. But if hit/trapped/etc they can be killed as easily as any other human. - Specialize in ALL kinds of weapons.. Even at the Weapon's master stage.

Witches
**Please Note: The following is merely a fictional, glamorous take on realistic Pagan religions. So please no “It’s not like that, it’s like this ___” know-it-all stuff. This is fiction. That’s all. We are simply allowing people to take certain paths of witchcraft and play them out as if they were truly from myth and legend.**
The word “witch” is a loose term pertaining to any human who follows and practices archaic beliefs and magic. There are many different branches of this - Including the Druids and Wiccans who worship nature and the God and Goddess, Voodoo practitioners who worship ancient deities and ancestors from the past to influence and change the world and people around them, and even the Necromancer who commutes and allies with spirits of the dead. Some are aligned with good, others with evil, and even more simply with the Earth.
You can play an almost infinite number of various beliefs and Pagan religions as a Witch, the above are only some basic ideas. Do your own research and decide where to go from there - Just please be sure to explain it to us in your character’s profile, or even supply us with some reference links. However, the most common of the Witches are what are otherwise known as modern day ‘Druids.’ These witches are considered mostly neutral, only working for Mother Earth and the flora and fauna upon her. They work closely alongside the Elementals, and have a close bond with them. The following ranks and abilities are generally outlined for this kind of Witch, but can be altered and applied to all sorts of other Witches.
Witches, of most kinds, are known for living exponentially longer than an average human - Living for close to 100-200 years of age, due to their magic. Voodoo High priests/Priestesses are especially known for this, but Druids/Wiccans/Nature Witches are completely against the idea and consider it a treason against the God and Goddess.
The Mentor
Witches of ALL kinds are known for frequently taking on mentors and/or covens where their magic can flourish more fully.
An ignorant human may become a Witch through meeting a skilled Witch Via RP or PM and convincing them to take that human as an apprentice. Once this has happened, your human character will then be considered a Witch.

Ranks and Abilities
Please note that the higher rank you begin them at, the older they MUST be. If they're a high priestess, they obviously have been practicing for some time, and as humans, they generally age, whether they appear to be aging or not.
Apprentice (1-49 posts) The witch must study under a more experienced witch. Even an Apprentice can cast a circle, however their’s is incredibly weak. It is possible to be an Apprentice and not study under a higher witch; these are solitary witches and prefer to follow their own views instead of essentially copying off of another, and since witchcraft and magic is not a technique like a hunter’s area of expertise, then it is not essential to pass down the same ideas.
Beginner (50-99 posts) Traditionally, a witch must spend a year and a day simply practicing and researching before they can call themselves a true practictioner. An Apprentice becomes a Beginner after a year and a day. They are now experimenting with potions, herbs and talismans. Their circles and abilities are still weak, and often they take much longer to cast things and to find the right ingredients and doses than a more experienced witch.
Intermediate (100-199 posts) An Intermediate witch has learned from their mistakes and can now make simple concoctions with ease. These witches can cast larger and more powerful circles, and are beginning to experiment with summoning spirits to aid them. Rarely can they convince the spirits to do anything, but on the lucky occasion, they may be able to talk one into catching a pursuer's feet under a root.
Skilled (200-299 posts) Once at this level, a witch can communicate with lesser spirits within the Earth. A passerby may find a Skilled witch talking to themselves, when in fact they are carrying on conversations with the trees and flowers, or perhaps a hidden elemental. Skilled witches can cast effective barriers and protection spells, and some who have devoted more time into making potions or talismans have even developed methods of harnessing a guardian within power stones. This way they may give a stone to a loved one, and on a few occasions of dire need, a guardian will release itself and fend off attackers for a short period. These guardians take on many shapes specific to the wearer.
High Priest or Priestess (300+ posts) These witches have studied extensively, and performed many extensive ceremonies and rituals. They may also perform weddings. A High Priest or Priestess has dedicated themselves entirely to the Earth, and communicate freely with her through the flora and fauna. They may call upon spirits to aid them, and the spirits respect the Priest highly and do as they ask. Their circles are very powerful, but still take time and concentration to cast.
Cans: - Use Magic to protect/curse others. - Heal, though not as sufficiently as an Angel. - Physically fight, though they will more than likely not win. - Use Divination. This includes Tarot Cards, runes, pendulums, scrying, oracle cards, ouijia boards, so on and so forth.
Cannots: - Use magic in the midst of one-on-one battle. Any magic performed by the Witch must be conducted in an organized ritual. As in, the Witch must be somewhere s/he can take the time to focus, build a circle (physical is best, but mental can work.), and perform the ceremony in which the magic will be cast. Due to this, they are NOT a battle-ready class. They tend to work mostly with protection, purification, and divination. If in a group however, if her/his teammates can keep their enemy away from the Witch for a long enough period of time, that Witch may conduct a short ritual right then and there. However, this will NEVER be as effectic as when done outside of danger. - Live forever.

Ignorant
These humans have no idea of the creatures that live opposite them in the night. The Ignorant are unaware of the werewolves and vampires that live amongst them, whether they refuse to understand and believe or simply because those of the night have not revealed themselves to that particular person.
Ignorant humans can become witches or hunters if they so choose after accepting the fact that werewolves and vampires exist. Some never accept them, and only believe the stories to be a myth in order to scare children.
The Ignorant live in all parts of the world. They all have different myths and legends circling werewolves and vampires, all have different beliefs. Some do pay heed to them in superstitious ways, others pay no heed at all. If you want to play an Ignorant, be as creative as possible. Some live in gangs and only see other humans as the enemy, others live in African tribes and wear beads to fend off werewolves, and even others live in Romania and hang garlic on their doors. Every country has their own circle of beliefs.
Abilities are unique to each person, whether it be drawing or running. Nothing is particularly exceptional, after all these are just humans who have not committed to something as extensively as a witch or hunter. Mostly, abilities are reserved to hobbies. Therefore, The Ignorant do not have levels or statuses.
Cans: - Anything a normal, every day human can do.
Cannots: - Anything a normal, every day human cannot do.
